Actress Greta Lee has said she is “opposed to AI (artificial intelligence) actors” as she believes films are about “human connection”.

The 43-year-old recently played the AI tablet Lilypad in Toy Story 5 and also appeared in last year’s Tron: Ares, which features a story about a sophisticated computer program which transitions from the digital world to the real world.

Lee told Radio Times: “To be frank, I’m opposed to AI actors, I don’t think I need to be shy about that. I’m a human actor, I would like to remain a human actor.

“Movies are all about connecting people all over the world, people who normally wouldn’t have any contact with each other, and the essence of being human is essential to movies existing.

The actress also spoke about not being on social media (Isobel Infantes/PA)

“And I can’t imagine a world where we don’t have people making movies. I think that is an extremely concerning future to face.”

The actress, who will appear in the upcoming film Late Fame alongside Willem Dafoe, went on to say that she also avoided social media for similar reasons.

She added: “I have to admit I’m slightly more agnostic when it comes to screens. I’m not on social media – I decided half a decade ago to no longer engage.

“I didn’t like how it was shifting. The way I live, I feel like it needs a remove from that lens of social media and screens, and phones.”

The American actress has also voiced Lyla in Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse (2018) and Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse (2023), starred in romantic drama film Past Lives (2023), and played Maxine in Netflix comedy drama series Russian Doll.
