AI teacher leaves people confused as it fails to spell simple word

Asking my AI teacher how to spell seventeen

A video of an AI chatbot trying and failing to spell the word ‘seventeen’ has gone viral on social media.

User @huskirl shared the video with his 64,000,000 followers on X with the caption: ‘Asking my AI teacher how to spell seventeen’.

It has now amassed 14,000,000 views, more than 100,000 likes, and has been shared 11,000 times since it was first posted on November 1.

In the video, the user starts by asking the AI chatbot how many E’s are in the word seventeen. It initially hesitates before claiming the word is spelt S-E-V-E-E-N and confidently concludes there are three E’s in the word seventeen.

It goes on to say the word seventeen is ‘just a number, so it doesn’t have any letters in it’.

Things get worse when @huskirl replies with the correct spelling, and the chatbot is thrown off by the letter ‘T’.

It then bizarrely claims this makes it two words, not one.

The clip, which is under three minutes long, continues with the bot being asked to spell the number fourteen and getting frustrated to the point that it ends the call completely.

It then immediately comes back and claims it was cut off by the user.

User @huskirl proceeds to antagonise the chatbot into arguing back before it clams itself down and saying it is here to help with learning and that mistakes are expected.

The video has been met with both laughter and concern from users on social media, with one responding: ‘Loved when she started gaslighting you “17 is a number so there’s no letters at all actually”‘.

Another user said it was probably the greatest video ever posted on X.

People have replied to the video with edits of famous film posters, for example changing the name of the Brad Pitt film ‘Seven’ to ‘Seveen’.

However, some users were more concerned than amused.

Some called the clip ‘creepy’ and were concerned about the prevalence of AI technology which may not be accurate.

It is unclear which AI chatbot was used to make the video, and whether the clip had been edited by the poster.
