Our Yorkshire Farm star Amanda Owen has revealed there was a tragic death at her farm that her children found “suspicious”.

The farmer - who shot to fame on the Channel 5 show alongside her now-ex husband Clive and their nine children - said she wanted to share the “reality” of farming.

Owen, who now co-presents the Channel 5 show Our Farm Next Door, told fans while sitting in her tractor: “I put up so many pictures of life on the farm and I always like to think that I put up a true reflection of how things are and what’s going on.

“So, this morning the children came back having been out with the dogs and said that they’d found one of the spotty lambs dead and it was definitely in suspicious circumstances. Murder, they thought.

“Well as it happens it wasn’t, it was bloat. Which is kind of like, the symptoms of which, are pretty obvious really. Basically you blow up and pop. For no particular reason.

“I mean I’m sure there is a reason. It doesn’t happen to many of them but this unfortunate lamb had done just that. It’s a weird one isn’t it, you always wonder if maybe it’s because of the weather and because of the rain and maybe a bit of regrowth of grass and whatever and it had done just that.”

The Yorkshire Shepherdess went on: “And then something had come along and had a little munch at it. Probably carrion, ravens, crows, they’d had a little bit of a feast.

“So it was definitely not murder, definitely not been there that long either because with it being as warm as it is, bodies, carcasses literally become a very green grassy place in not so long at all so. Literally in the last 24 hours.

“So yeah, not a great start to the morning but it happens. What can I say? Of course we’re annoyed about it. But that’s just how it is when you’ve got livestock, you’ve got dead stock. There are some things that you can try and prevent but bloat is one of the ones that you just can’t, you don’t know who’s gonna succumb. Better it than me.”

Owen captioned the video: “Reality is just that. Gains and losses. We all know but sometimes choose to look away.”

Owen and her husband Clive split in 2022 after 22 years of marriage.

Last year, she addressed their separation, admitting the last year had been “incredibly hard”, suggesting that fame affected their marriage.

She shared in the opening moments of their series in 2024: “Me and Clive, although we are still husband and wife, we are separate. This last year has been incredibly hard in so many respects but we’ve got through it.

“It’s just what happened, just pressures and stresses but now we are kind of pulling back together again because we kind of need to, because we’ve got a house to do up.”
