Liverpool have just over a week to get deals done
Jeff Bezos nears deal to buy more than 30% stake in Liverpool.

Liverpool’s transfer priority should be a defensive midfielder and not a left-winger, according to Daniel Sturridge.

With just over a week until transfer Deadline Day, Liverpool continue to be linked with reinforcements, particularly Paris Saint-Germain pair Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye.

"I think the team needs a defensive midfielder, personally," Sturridge told Sky Sports.

"We have been talking about a defensive midfielder at Liverpool for the last three years and I think [Ryan] Gravenberch coming into the team and playing consistently and Liverpool winning the Premier League sort of changed that philosophy.

"But if you actually analyse the midfield, then they're all naturally more attacking players.

"[Dominik] Szoboszlai is probably better as a No10. He strikes the ball well, he sets the press very well and all in all I think he's a more offensive minded player when you talk about the counter attack and the goal they conceded.”

Transfer verdict: Daniel Sturridge

As Andoni Iraola looks to bolster forward line before the transfer window closes, Sturridge has suggested that Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh would be a better fit than Barcola due to the existing options already at the club.

“We’re looking at the reports and it’s saying ‘left-winger’ for me you can play [Cody] Gakpo, you’ve got [Florian] Wirtz and [Rio] Ngumoha,” Sturridge added.

“If I’m buying a winger at Liverpool, I’m rather go right-wing because I’ve got options on the left.

“I’m not sure about bringing in another left-winger, personally.”

Liverpool are back in action on Saturday at home to Nottingham Forest in what will be the final game before transfer Deadline Day.
