Strictly Come Dancing judge Anton Du Beke “jumped at the chance” to join the upcoming UK tour of Ballet Shoes, which will see him star as two characters in the “beautiful and joyful production”.
The ballroom dancer, 60, joins the acclaimed stage adaptation of Noel Streatfeild’s classic 1936 children’s novel of the same name, which is about female ambition and identity, and the power of chosen family.
The National Theatre production revolves around palaeontologist Great-Uncle Matthew who adopts three orphaned girls who pursue their individual ambitions after being joining a dance and drama academy.
Du Beke will play the eccentric Great-Uncle Matthew, as well as retired Russian ballerina Madame Fidolia, who runs the dance academy where the adoptive daughters train.
Reflecting on his new roles, he said: “I took my family to see Ballet Shoes at the National Theatre, and I completely fell in love with the show.
“It was such a beautiful, joyful production, and when I was given the opportunity to be part of it, I jumped at the chance.
“I couldn’t wait to step into that world and be a part of the magic.
“It gives me an exciting opportunity to test myself further as an actor – and dance and family are at the core, the two most important things to me.”
The upcoming tour will commence in August 2027 and will run until January 2028.
Du Beke will perform in 11 venues with shows in London, Birmingham, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Manchester and Bristol.
Further casting is yet to be announced.
Du Beke is best known for his long-running role on Strictly, making his debut on the hit BBC show as a professional dancer in 2004.
He has been partnered with stars including actress Emma Barton, newscaster Katie Derham and the late Ann Widdecombe, and became a permanent judge on the programme in 2021.
Du Beke is also a singer and released his studio album From The Top in 2017, and he has written several bestselling historical novels, as well as children’s and non-fiction books.
His upcoming stage roles mark his return to theatre following his 2025 Christmas With Anton Du Beke tour, which featured festive music, dancing, and comedy alongside vocalist Lance Ellington and a live band.

“To have Anton Du Beke take on the role of Great Uncle Matthew and Fidolia, swapping Strictly ballroom for the world of Ballet Shoes, is glorious,” she added.
“Anton is perfectly placed to bring his warmth, charm and adventurous spirit to this radiant, life-affirming production.
“Adapted by Kendall Feaver from Noel Streatfeild’s adored 1930s novel and directed by Katy Rudd, audiences across the country of all ages will be enchanted by their heart-warming production.”
