Armed police respond to incident as residents told to avoid area

Armed police have been responding to an incident that has caused disruption in the Morriston area of Swansea.

Residents have been told to avoid the area and events, including a local firework display, have been cancelled.

Video circulating online shows police officers next to a stationary car that appears to have been struck by a shotgun blast on Clase Road near an Asda superstore.

A National Police Air Service helicopter was circling the area but has since returned to base.

A spokesman for South Wales Police said the incident was ongoing.

In a short statement, the force said officers were attending an incident on the A48 Clase Road.

"The road has been partially closed. Please avoid the area and plan any travel accordingly," they said.

The local football club, Morriston Town AFC, cancelled a planned firework display on Friday.

"Unfortunately the police have advised due to an issue ongoing, the event has to be cancelled. With immediate effect," it said in a social media post, advising people to stay at home.
