Arrest after man injured in village dies in hospital

Police in Ayrshire have made an arrest after the death of a man who was found injured in a street in Dundonald.

Officers were called to Main Street in the village about 04:05 on Sunday after reports of an "unresponsive man with injuries".

Emergency services went to the scene and the 57-year-old man was taken to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock where he died a short time later. His family is aware.

A 36-year-old man has been arrested in connection with assault and inquiries are ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "The death is currently being treated as unexplained.

"Officers remain in the area and anyone with any information or concerns can approach them.

"A road closure is in place on Main Street. Please avoid the area if possible."
