A woman has been arrested after a man in his 80s was killed in a collision between an HGV and a bicycle in Bromsgrove.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said they were called to the junction of New Road and the A38 at 15:34 BST on Tuesday.

"On arrival, a man, the cyclist, was found. Sadly, it quickly became apparent nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene," a West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said.

A 35-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving, West Mercia Police said. She has since been released under investigation and was helping with inquiries.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or may have seen the HGV or cyclist in the area shortly beforehand should contact West Mercia Police.

The force would also like to hear from anyone who was driving in the area at the time and may have relevant dashcam footage.

The A38 was blocked in both directions between the A448 and Charford Road on Tuesday evening as a result of the crash. New Road was also closed both ways between Wellington Road and Bant Mill Road.

The collision appeared to have happened in the Bromsgrove Route Enhancement Programme roadworks on the northbound side of the A38.
