Arsenal: Arteta reveals Hincapie and Zubimendi injury updates after warm-down nightmare

Arsenal duo Piero Hincapie and Martin Zubimendi are set to undergo scans on respective ankle injuries suffered immediately following the win over Leeds.
Both players were absent from an open training session held at London Colney ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League match against Lille, having each been hurt in the aftermath of a 2-1 victory in the Premier League on Saturday.
Hincapie featured for eight minutes off the bench against Leeds as a replacement for Riccardo Calafiori, but was later carried out of the post-match warm-down.
It later emerged that Zubimendi had also picked up a knock in similar fashion, leaving both players as major doubts for Arsenal’s return to European action.
Speaking ahead of Lille’s midweek visit to the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta confirmed that both Hincapie and Zubimendi are dealing with ankle injuries and were due to undergo scans on Monday to determine the extent of the damage.
He added that Hincapie’s injury “looks a little bit more serious”, clarifying that the session in question was not a typical warm-down, but rather a training session organised for those who have not played a lot of minutes so far this season.
Zubimendi was an unused substitute against Leeds.
“We had a training session planned after the match, to get everybody in the best rhythm,” Arteta said. “In two very unfortunate actions, we lost two players. Not great. We need to assess them.
“Today they have further scans to see where they are and have a timeframe for how long they are going to be out.”
Arteta admitted the injuries were “not ideal” and when asked what could be done to stop such incidents in future, he said: “Very easy, you don't train.
“If they never train then they don't get injured, but the consequence to that is when they are needed to play they have no rhythm and when you ask them to play they are going to have no impact in the game.
"That could happen at the Emirates - it never happened in seven years that I have been here. It could happen the next day in the training session. That has happened before and hopefully it doesn't happen again.
"What can you do? If I had a crystal ball I would just say 'guys, get in the Jacuzzi and I will see you tomorrow'."
