Bruno Guimaraes says he will be a “warrior” for Arsenal in his first interview since his £75million move from Newcastle.

The Brazilian was on Saturday unveiled as the club’s fourth summer signing, and biggest to date, ending Mikel Arteta’s pursuit of a new midfielder to provide competition for and play alongside the likes of Rice and fellow midfielder Martin Zubimendi.

Guimaraes leaves Newcastle after four years, where he grew into one of the best midfielders in Europe, and is now targeting regularly winning trophies after picking up just one Carabao Cup while with the Magpies.

“I feel good, I feel amazing,” he told Arsenal. “I'm glad for the opportunity.

“Since the first time I spoke to [Andrea] Berta and Mikel [Arteta], I was excited. I just felt inside of me that I need a new challenge in my life and I think to be an Arsenal player is going to be an exciting challenge in my life.”

He added: “I think, after playing two World Cups, I think I’m at the point of my life, I think I need a challenge like this. I want to win trophies, I want to make history and I think I'm in the right place to do it. I'm so excited to start. We have tough games to play this season, so the squad is going to be very, very important and I’m hopeful we can achieve our dreams.”

“I can pass the ball, run a lot and play like a warrior, I’ll never give up,” he said. “I will try to help the team, good with the ball, composed, very calm, and sometimes I can score some goals and hope to make everyone very, very happy here.”

All the messages Arsenal fans have sent him during protracted transfer talks did not go unnoticed by Guimaraes.

He said: “The message for me is thank you for everything you have done. All the messages you gave me, I'm so excited to join you. I will give you my best, I promise. Like I said, I'm your warrior, I’ll never give up. Hopefully we can create many, many good memories together.”
