Arsenal eventually clicked into gear as a 3-0 victory over Lille made it two wins from two in the Champions League.

Mikel Arteta’s side were kept at bay for more than an hour before Jurrien Timber broke the deadlock with a brilliant finish over the goalkeeper.

Matt Verri was at the Emirates to rate the Arsenal players...

Return to normality - a clean sheet without having to make a save. Nearly put himself in trouble in the first half when dropping the ball straight to a Lille player, but Rice came to his rescue.

Sublime finish, dinked over the goalkeeper to open the scoring. He had been a constant threat in behind the defence before that. Put big chances on a plate for Guimaraes and Merino and was rock solid defensively too.

Continues to look right at home. Tasked with pressing Haraldsson all the way up the pitch and did so well, having the pace to cover that ground. Got his body in the way when required too. Top display.

Had to be alert in the early stages as Lille carried a threat and made one brilliant block just inside the area. Bit too aggressive in getting tight at times but overall marshalled the defence really well.

Exposed early on as he left huge space for Lille to counter into. Grew into the game and made an impact in the final third. Picked out Eze for a good opportunity and nobody on the pitch created more chances.

Fired the ball around with real purpose and added some much-needed class to an otherwise lacklustre performance in the opening 45 minutes. Range of passing was superb and he ran the midfield.

One of the few to play with any sort of intensity. Kept trying to whip up the crowd as well. Incisive passing opened up Lille, though he fluffed his lines from seven yards out when unmarked. Could have been more decisive around the box.

So lethargic. Not enough zip on the ball and then got himself booked for a lunging slide after losing it. Usual composure in front of goal was lacking, too, with two poor misses. Looked uncomfortable throughout.

Kept getting chances to run at Perraud but his final ball was, on the whole, terrible. That was until he picked out a better pass inside for Timber to open the scoring. Still needs to become much more consistent in those positions.

For an hour, he was extremely disappointing. Should have converted a first-half chance and was slack in possession. But he stepped up significantly after Arsenal made chances and cooly converted to make it 2-0. Looked much better alongside Havertz and Saka.

Offered absolutely nothing. Seven touches in the first half in yet another anonymous performance. Did not have a single shot and was far too easily shrugged off the ball. Can have no complaints about lack of starts.

Played his part in Arsenal’s quality stepping up significantly. Lovely cut-back assist for Saka. Much improved on his showing against Leeds.

Fired Arsenal into life immediately after coming on. Picked out Eze for Arsenal’s second goal and then added one of his own with composed finish. Electric cameo.

Added the kind of guile that had been missing with Merino in midfield. Dictated the play as Arsenal took complete control

Comfortable final 15 minutes, with no defensive scares. Offered bursts of energy flying forward on the overlap.
