Arsenal vs Lille LIVE: Champions League match stream, latest team news, lineups, TV, prediction
The Emirates plays host to Champions League football for the first time this season tonight as LOSC Lille visit Arsenal on matchday two. The Gunners made a winning start to their European campaign five long weeks ago as they visited Napoli and eked out a 1-0 victory, with Martin Odegaard hitting the deciding goal 15 minutes from time. Lille will present another tricky test tonight, though. The French outfit have made a bright start to their domestic campaign, sitting just one point adrift of league leaders Monaco after six rounds.
Lille are back at UEFA’s top table this season after struggling in the Europa League last year, where they were knocked out by Aston Villa in the last-16. Their journey to north London tonight will reunite striker Olivier Giroud with the Arsenal faithful, though, for the first time since 2020. He has been named to the travelling squad and seems to be in line to start.
The Gunners, however, are expected to be without Martin Zubimendi and Piero Hincapie this evening after they suffered injuries following Saturday’s victory over Leeds. Follow all the latest from Arsenal vs Lille below with dedicated match blog, complete with expert insight and analysis from Matt Verri at the ground.
Arsenal vs Lille latest updates
Live updates
Arsenal could do with a confidence-boosting win here, but Lille will be no pushovers. They were second-best for long spells against Leeds, but will know they require a firm performance here.
Provided Arteta gets his selection right, they are surely favourites. Leave the match to be decided by substitutes, though, and it could be another nervous evening at the Emirates.
On the whole, though, we expect Arsenal to have too much quality for this injury-hit Lille. It should be two wins from two for them tonight.
Arsenal to win, 2-1.
Lille travelling squad in full
Srdanovic, Ngoy, Alexsandro, Perraud, Nianzou, Verdonk, Cossier, Goffi
Bentaleb, Haraldsson, Kjaergaard, Mukau, Andre
Bakwa, Giroud, Sahraoui, Ueda, Onal, Perrin, Diaoune
Lille early team news
Thiago Santos misses out this evening after he was stretchered off at the weekend. He was on the receiving end of a nasty tackle and tore both his meniscus and ACL.
Ethan Mbappe - younger brother of Real Madrid superstar Kylian - is absent with a suspension, and Hamza Igamane, formerly of Rangers, is also sidelined with a cruciate ligament injury sustained in January.
Olivier Giroud is in contention to face his former club.
Arsenal early team news
Arsenal will be without Piero Hincapie and Martin Zubimendi this evening after the pair were both injured in the substitutes’ warm-down following Saturday’s defeat of Leeds.
Mikel Arteta was not overly impressed with that situation - more on that later.
Elsewhere, Christos Tzolis remains sidelined with a hamstring injury, and William Saliba is out with his long-standing back problem.
Beyond those absentees, the Gunners are at full strength.
