At least eight passenger planes have been affected by bomb threats and forced to make emergency landings in the skies across Europe.

A Ryanair flight from London Stansted to Sofia was diverted to Plovdiv as a string of bomb threats affected major airlines for a second day this week.

Three planes to Bulgaria have been affected by reports of explosives, alongside two jets to Rome, as well as flights to Brussels and Warsaw.

The chaos comes two days after around ten commercial flights, including two from the UK, were targeted by bomb threats.

A Dublin to Rome flight was among the first to be forced to change its course to Évreux air base in Eure, north of Paris, after a report of a bomb.

The Aer Lingus jet landed after flying in circles over France, according to Flight tracker FlightRadar.

A Wizz Air plane from Milan to Warsaw was diverted to Vienna following another bomb threat received during the flight.

"A passenger A320 aircraft flying the Dublin-Rome route has just been diverted to the ?vreux air base following a bomb alert, Matignon announces. The situation is being monitored in real time by Matignon as per procedures."

Both planes squawked an emergency 7700 code within 20 minutes of each other before being directed to different runways.

The Aer Lingus plane travelled across the English Channel on a normal flight path before swerving south-west of Paris and circling Chartres airport and diverting towards Évreux.

The plane then flew straight past the military runway without touching down, before turning around and landing.

The Wizz air plane was flying a normal course from Milan to Warsaw when it received the bomb threat, causing the plane to change direction over the Czech Republic and land in Vienna.

Ten commercial flights, including two from the UK, were affected by bomb threats on Tuesday.

None of the flights, which included at least four Ryanair flights, were affected, but no suspicious devices were found.

A LOT aircraft from London Heathrow had to be diverted to Warsaw-Modlin after the warning, while a Manchester jet was affected en route to Murcia in Spain.
