From bookends to Champagne and teapots, these ideas take the guesswork out of gifting
Standard Shopping

As an interiors editor, people find giving me presents very stressful – especially when it’s something for the house. They either a) assume I’ll have it already, or b) will absolutely hate it.

Neither is usually true. Sure, I’ve got a set of Champagne coupes, but can you ever have too many? And yes, I might prefer the bookends I already have, but there’s nothing wrong with re-gifting (as long as you remember not to regift to the same person – that’s a massive faux pas).

As long as a gift is thoughtful and personal, then it’s always gratefully received. From gorgeous homeware to sexy tech and quality furniture, I’ve scoured the shops for the latest and greatest presents to bestow on your design-loving family and friends this year, all of them with the Nicky Rampley-Clarke seal of approval.

My top tip? Start planning now so you can tick people off your list and enjoy the build-up as much as the big day. Happy shopping!

Westwing x Victoria Beckham Mouth-Blown Champagne Coupes Set of 4

I’ll admit: I’m a Victoria Beckham superfan. To me, the former Spice Girl and now fashion powerhouse can do no wrong, and the fact that she loves tequila makes her all the more fabulous. From her new collection with Westwing, it’s this set of four mouth-blown Champagne coupes that have got my attention.

Described as ‘the little black dress for the table’, they feature razor-thin silhouettes (naturally) with refined stems and a subtle faceted texture. Cheers, darling.

Jonathan Adler Basketweave Mahjong Set

Jonathan Adler Basketweave Mahjong Set

I’ve been obsessed with mahjong – the traditional Chinese tile game of skill, luck and strategy – ever since I saw the movie , and it’s since exploded in popularity around the world.

American designer Jonathan Adler has added his signature maximalism to this luxurious set crafted in high-gloss lacquer with a traditional basket-weave pattern. Everything you need for a round or two is enclosed, while it makes for a posh coffee table accent when not in play.

Daylesford Marble Mortar Bowl with Ears

While Daylesford’s mortar vessel is traditionally used for crushing spices to release their aromatic properties, I’ve always fancied this solid marble piece as a dog bowl, which I’ve seen used in Lady Bamford’s very own pubs and restaurants. Its shape is inspired by an antique piece dating back nearly 150 years.

Leo VW Art + Design Aubergine Purple

Leo VW Art + Design Aubergine Purple

This new Moorish tray from Leo Vaughan Williams – the private curator and designer whose natural sense of style I fawn over on Instagram – comes in an aubergine-purple colourway with a luxurious mirrored base. Large enough for housing a well-stocked bar or simply a pile of coffee table books, it’s perfect on a sideboard or ottoman.

Sure to, er, shake up any festive soirée, this cocktail shaker from HexClad – Gordon Ramsay’s go-to cookware brand, no less – features their signature honeycomb design in shimmering gold. It’s a collaboration with Still G.IN. by Dre and Snoop, which is a real conversation-starter over a martini or two.

OKA Arroch Book Ends Onyx

OKA Arroch Book Ends Onyx

I’m a sucker for OKA – the quintessentially British company with a global aesthetic – and their new bookends sculpted from amber onyx are sure to get you on your high horse. Heavy and durable, they catch the light in all the right ways and will add a dash of equine style to your shelving.

Grove England Anemone Perfume Candle

If you’re a design-lover like me, you’ll be following the gorgeous Cotswolds home of Laura Butler-Madden, the interior designer behind Grove England, the fragrance brand with a recently opened store in Stow-on-the-Wold.

Perfect for giving your host this season, her Anemone candle is expertly crafted with a British master perfumer and comes with delicate notes of chamomile, sensual jasmine and neroli, grounded by labdanum and cedarwood. Calming and oh-so bloody chic.

Assouline Fashionphile: The Book of Iconic Shoes

You can never have too many coffee table books, right? Whether giving or receiving, they’re always a welcome addition to the home for those who appreciate a tome that says something about who you are, and Fashionphile: The Book of Iconic Shoes from luxury French publisher Assouline is just the ticket.

Inside? 25 shoes that have left a trail of defining legacies worth celebrating, with truly inspiring photography and stories.

Laurent-Perrier Cuveé Rosé Champagne Ribbon Robe Edition

There’s always a place for Champagne under the tree or on the table. Luckily, Laurent-Perrier is popping the cork on their limited-edition Cuveé Rosé Champagne in a reusable metallic cage of flowing ribbons – a present that’s already wrapped, if you will.

Pair with Asian or Indian cuisine during ‘Twixmas and allow it to take pride of place for New Year with a pink candle popped in the top (that’s what I’m going to do).

Heal’s Toolbox RE by Vitra Sea Blue

It’s not like me to love anything remotely practical – just ask my husband, who bought me a pair of (admittedly gorgeous) Aigle wellies one Christmas that went down like a sack of coal – but I’ll make an exception for this toolbox with designer credentials.

Designed by Vitra, the organiser is perfect for storing and transporting utensils, tools or accessories. It’s made from recycled plastic sourced from industrial waste. Sustainable and stylish!

M&S Velvet Leopard Print Long Bolster Cushion

It’s unusual to see anything from interior designer Kelly Hoppen that isn’t neutral, so I was pleasantly surprised when I stumbled across this leopard-print bolster cushion as part of her collection with M&S. Long and rectangular, it’s made from smooth velvet and adds a decorative accent to sofas and beds – or can be used as a fancy draught excluder by the door, as I’ve styled it (sorry, Kelly).

Aaron Probyn RYE Wine Glass Set of 2 Pink and Red

This set of two wine glasses from the eponymous designer is expertly handcrafted from specialised glass and is cleverly designed to stack. The stems and feet come in a range of alternating colours – I love the pink-and-red combo. Perfect for wine or cocktails.

Globetrotter Large Packing Cube Sunflower

Can’t quite stretch to the luxury cases and bags from bragging-right travel brand Globetrotter? Then one of its packing cubes will scratch the itch. Designed to group items together on a trip, it’s made from water-resistant nylon with a mesh panel and zip divider for breathability and separation.

Choose from a spectrum of shades, including sunflower yellow. Great for the, er, globe-trotter in your life.

Birdie Fortescue Namda Embroidered Cushion Cover Blue

Can you ever have too many cushions? According to my husband, yes – but I disagree. This from posh British firm Birdie Fortescue is gorgeous as a gift, inspired by traditional Kashmiri embroidery with a floral design in a blue-and-green colourway. It’s beautifully finished with piped edging.

John Smedley x Moon Colour Block Merino Wool Throw Ochre

John Smedley x moon throw

Luxury British knitwear brand John Smedley has teamed up with heritage wool manufacturer Moon on its very first homeware collection. Included is this rather cosy merino wool throw in a striking colour-block pattern featuring ochre and blue. Throw it over the back of a chair or wrap it around your shoulders for a touch of quiet luxury.

WÜSTHOF Classic Chef’s Knife 16cm Fresh Rosemary

John Lewis wusthof knife

An all-rounder for any foodie who appreciates form as well as function, WÜSTHOF’s classic chef’s knife is a cut above for slicing and dicing. It’s made in Germany and features a precision-forged steel blade for durability and performance. It’s too damn pretty for a drawer, though.

The Conran Shop Brown Betty Teapot

The Conran Shop has teamed up with ceramicist Ian McIntyre to launch a new iteration of Brown Betty, the iconic teapot first launched over 300 years ago and a bestseller at Habitat during its early days. The clever chap has reintroduced lost features and improved the pour with a non-drip spout, while the red-clay and Rockingham glaze have been retained. Afternoon tea, anyone?

Habitat Zelda Side Table Silver

A side table for under £100? The recipient will never know! Habitat’s Zelda is all about its rounded curves and silver finish, meaning it saves floor space without compromising on good looks. Whether for drinks and nibbles – or simply somewhere to put your phone – people can always find a spot for this in your home.

Next x Laura Ashley China Rose Stand Mixer

Next laura ashley

An appliance for Christmas is usually a risky choice, but you can have confidence when you’ve got this Laura Ashley stand mixer sitting pretty under the tree. The hand-applied designer print in blue and white means it can take pride of place on the worktop even when it’s not in use, while features including a tilting head, multi-speed settings, a powerful motor and a large mixing bowl ensure it can accomplish pretty much every task.

Bang & Olufsen Beosound A1 3rd Gen Waterproof Bluetooth Speaker Lavender Purple

A design aficionado in your life who doesn’t want to take a bulky speaker with them on their next big trip? Fear not: this new waterproof Bluetooth speaker from none other than Bang & Olufsen comes in a spectrum of sexy colours – lavender, honey, eucalyptus, you name it – and features a sleek and sexy design that won’t eat into baggage allowance.

Tech-wise, expect up to 24 hours of play from a single charge and the largest woofer in its class for big, fat bass.

Buster + Punch Takeout Portable Table Light Brass

Buster + Punch light

There’s always a need for a wireless lamp in a design lover’s house, and the Takeout from Buster + Punch is a thing of sheer beauty. It’s made from solid metal and features the brand’s signature cross-knurl and light pipe in a toughened glass shade.

You can dim it with a tap on the top, and it lasts for about 14 hours. I have it in the brass finish, and it looks the business on a table outside in the summer or in the winter. Talk about a glow-up!

Peugeot Palace Manual Salt Mill

If you’re anything like me, you didn’t know that Peugeot – the French car manufacturer – also made salt and pepper mills (and more besides). Now, I’m seeing them on every restaurant table I reserve.

The kind of thing you probably wouldn’t buy for yourself, this particular salt mill is inspired by a design from 1874 and is crafted from sustainable wood in a black-satin finish with silver-plated metal accents. Sure to add lashings of style to your seasoning.

Big Green Egg Höfats CIRCLE 35 Tabletop Plancha Grill

Appealing to the foodie with an appreciation for fabulous design, the CIRCLE by Höfats via Big Green Egg is the host with the most. German-made, the sleek and sexy tabletop plancha grill brings everyone around the table together to cook over open fire.

Perfect for those who love putting pen to paper in a technology-driven world, the Paper Pure with a Marker can be used for journalling, note-taking and sketching without the distraction of notifications and social media on your usual devices.

Once you’re done, you can turn your scribbles into typed text for emailing to your computer and more. Lightweight and oh-so luxurious in your hand, I can see this appealing to the creative in your life who’s craving a more analogue and beautiful way of working. For example, me.

Le Creuset Stoneware L’Etoile Christmas Collection Heritage Sauce Jug Cerise

Nothing says ‘Christmas’ more to a design-lover than digging out your usual Le Creuset for a festive soirée. Unless, of course, you’ve got some of the seasonal pieces in their L’Étoile collection featuring a delicate embossed star motif inspired by the poinsettia. My pick is this cute jug in dark red, made from specialist clays and fired at high temperatures. Saucy!

No.3 London Dry Gin Tiny Martini Gift Pack

no3 gin

For those who like their gin with a splash of gorgeous, the new gift set from No.3 London Dry Gin by Berry Bros. & Rudd is just the thing. It comes with a bottle of the award-winning gin itself and a pair of small turquoise glasses, perfect for creating a mini martini (or ‘tinytini’, as I like to call it). Crisp and smooth, the spirit is almost as chic as the vessels – .

Choc rocks, right? Independent maker George Szilagyi certainly thinks so, which is why he’s just launched Shokolá, a new brand of chocolate with a designer edge. Seeing chocolate as a medium that can be used to uniquely create pieces of art, each limited slab is designed to be savoured for a special occasion.

Milk chocolate with a subtle caramel note cracks to reveal creamy dark chocolate ganache with crunchy cocoa nibs adding a hazelnut-like texture. The colourful marbled surface of this festive slab featuring a Christmas tree is almost too gorgeous to eat – almost – while the sexy packaging is just as chic. Look out for the smaller bars coming soon – perfect as stocking fillers.
