Men are obsessed with buying jackets. It’s a simple fact. My source? In my career as a menswear expert and stylist, I’ve spent years analysing shopping data and observing consumer behaviour.

It’s become clear to me that any man worth his sartorial salt will have an extensive collection of jackets and coats at his disposal. However, there’s almost always room for a new one.

The truth is, there’s always another hook, coat hanger or rack available for the perfect new-season layer. But where to turn for something fresh? That’s where my expertise comes in handy.

Below you’ll find my top five recommendations for jackets and coats this autumn/winter 2026, from affordable and high-street to investment and luxe.

I don’t know if I’m getting older or if M&S clothing is getting punchier, but something has shifted and I am now the biggest M&S stan going. The womenswear at M&S is sleek, elevated and wearable, while the menswear is sharp and timeless – what’s not to love?

As for my endorsement of the new-in jackets, I have to choose this button-through overshirt/Harrington hybrid.

Wax London Mason canvas jacket

It’s no secret – in fact, it’s well-documented in my work – that I back Wax London. Headliners of the menswear revolution, Wax London is getting men out of navy and into bolder colours and better shapes. For that, I will forever be grateful.

Case in point: this firetruck red work jacket. Ever-so-slightly cropped and perfectly boxy, this is a no-brainer investment piece that’ll see you through autumn in style. Please, no more navy.

Bershka Double-breasted funnel neck jacket with pocket in green

Now, this one surely comes as no surprise. With over 2,000 options listed under ‘coats & jackets’, Asos has more than a few options for you to check out. The challenge here is actually finding just one option to cop, and not upwards of five.

My current fave of the lot, though, is this funnel-necked beauty from Bershka, in all its utilitarian glory.

Burberry check cotton blouson jacket

Asos’ uber-luxe counterpart, MyTheresa is the multi-brand retailer that offers opulence that goes beyond just a season and lasts a lifetime. Among the selection, I spied this Burberry blouson jacket and, thanks to its Vintage Check patterned collar, it was an instant winner for me.

I’ll hold my hands up; I have slept on Barbour for far too long. In the last decade, Barbour’s output (particularly its outerwear offering) has gone from strength to strength, occupying a fresher, chicer space that I’ve given it credit for in the past.

Scrolling through the selection, I found it hard to pick out just one jacket for autumn/winter, but I settled on this ‘Transport Ursula Waterproof Jacket’, primarily having been swayed by its utility-inspired cut and plaid pattern.
