This arresting shade of cobalt blue is everywhere for autumn, and you’ll be surprised how well it complements most outfits. Be it denim jeans, a white midi dress or patterned maxi skirt, this Nobody’s Child coat adds joyous colour to cold-weather ensembles.

The cut is perfect – it’s oversized but doesn’t drown you out – while the adjustable drawstring waist and funnel neck allows you to play around with styling. The coat is water-resistant rather than waterproof, but kept me dry during light down pours.

The funnel neck is reigning supreme this season, particularly in trench form – and H&M’s high street offering is bang on the money. The trench offers ample syling versatility, whether worn fastened all the way up to the funnel neck, unbuttoned and loose, or cinched in thanks to the belt.

The cut is already oversized, but I’d suggest sizing up for for an extra inflated fit. Though lined, it doesn’t offer tonnes of warmth, making it ideal for autumn’s milder days.

Take note: Too thin for cold temperatures

A raincoat, but make it stylish, thanks to M&S. This enveloping jacket features a longline cut, roomy oversized fit and practical hood. I love how the hood isn’t too noticeable when down, while the high neckline is a fashionable yet functional design detail during downpours.

Finished in poppy red, it’s a playful alternative to drab raincoats. It passed the waterproof tests with flying colours during London’s recent rainfall, and folds away compactly for throwing in your bag.

The British heritage brand Barbour has reimagined the classic trench this season in a seventies-inspired corduroy material. As warm and insulating as you’d hope, the longline cut combines with a waist-cinching belt, wind flaps and brown buttons.

The rich corduroy texture perfectly contrasts tartan lining: wear the spread collar upright for a flash of Barbour’s signature print. This is a well crafted coat that will really come into its own during winter’s colder weather, and style over white dresses with loafers in the meantime.

A utility and track jacket hybrid, Cos’s nylon piece boasts a laidback, comfortably oversized fit. The nylon material is supremely lightweight and perfect for autumn’s in-between weather – it’s the layer you need when the sun is still shining.

The off-white tone slots seamlessly into your wardrobe, whether styled with denim or tailored trousers. Complete with an on-trend funnel neck and a drawstring waist to adjust the fit, the jacket is chef’s kiss.

H&M’s faux leather jacket looks like something you’d find at The Frankie Shop, but at a fraction of the price. Lightweight and soft-to-touch, the short jacket is distinguisable by its funnel collar with press studs and diagnoal zip down the front.

A contemporary take on often-overdone biker jackets, the outerwear features epaulettes and dropped shoulders, with an adjustable belt below the hem adding the final flourish. Whether worn in a balloon-shape thanks to belt, or loose and unzipped, it’s a stylish layer for dry autumn days.

What we love: Classic design, water resistant, flattering and comfortable

Take note: Could be too short for taller women, though it does come in petite

This M&S trench coat is about as classic as you can get. Designed with a double-breasted cut, a detachable belt and wind flaps, it’s got all the traditional signatures – plus a checked lining dug up from M&S’s archive.

The trench balances structure with just the right amount of movement, complete with epaulettes for shoulder definition and a rear wind flap. Mock horn buttons add to its expensive feel. The lining is soft cotton but the exterior is lined with M&S’s ‘Stormwear’ technology for shower resistance. I only wish it came in a longer length for my 6ft frame.

Free People’s jacket boasts a simple, utilitarian silhouette with feminine detailing. Crafted from cotton for a lightweight and soft feel, the workwear-inspired piece boasts a delicate lace trim that makes it a standout piece. The jacket has plenty more detailing, from the subtle ruching at the back to the funnel neck and adjustable tie.

Lightweight enough to work as a shirt but sufficiently oversized to layer over knits when the temperature plummets, it’s the perfect jacket for those looking for something a little different.

H&M’s take on the classic denim jacket is note-perfect for AW26. The relaxed bomber silhouette combines with a statement faux fur collar, which is detachable for styling versatility. Featuring a spread collar and zip fastening, there’s front pockets and elasticated smocking at the hem for a comfortable fit.

It locks in warmth well – especially with the furry collar – though isn’t a jacket for damp weather. The dark denim finish gives the jacket a smart, elevated feel.

Don’t miss this incredible saving on Mango’s suede blazer. Discounted by more than half, it’s crafted from 100 per cent goat leather, with a straight cut, backstitching detail, and lapel V-neck collar – the ultimate autumn jacket for the office.

A good structured blazer is just as practical as a jacket during autumntime. This Asos Design style ticks every box: it’s cinched-in waist creates a flattering silhouette while locking in warmth, and the high neckline and asymetrical front help it stand out. As for the finish, you can’t get much more autumunal than its rich chocolate brown hue.

Frog fastenings emerged as a major trend this summer, from white shirts to wedding guest dresses. It translates just as well to outerwear, and this Aligne jacket is case in point. With its wool composition and grey marl finish, it feels thoroughly classic, while the grey buttons, crew neckline and raglan sleeves ensure it’s an instant outfit-maker.

A technical bomber with a smart feel, this Massimo Dutti jacket features a high neckline, side button and statement red finish. Whether worn laidback and undone or fastened up with a stand collar, the jacket’s cotton-blend fabric will be breathable for autumn’s transitional weather.

You can’t go wrong with a barn jacket for autumn. Mango’s affordable take on the countryside aesthetic features a classic corduroy collar and matching cuffs, a regular cut and notched lapel collar. Designed with a check lining and slightly oversized cut, it’s a winner for your everyday winter wardrobe.

Damson Madder’s Pearl puffer coat is a bestseller each year. I love the navy green check update, which adds some classic plaid to your autumn wardrobe. Complete with a removable tie front hood, you can wear it multiple ways.
