Bikers gather at care home to grant resident's wish

A man with white hair and moustache sits on a vintage-style scooter in the foreground, surrounded by dozens of people and rows of motorcycles at an outdoor gathering. Several scooters and motorbikes, including red, silver and blue models, are parked closely together, with a crowd standing behind them in a car park on a bright day.

More than 100 scooter and motorbike riders answered a care home's appeal to help fulfil the wish of a resident living with dementia to be reunited with the mod community he loves.

Meadow Croft care home in Garstang, Lancashire, issued a public appeal after staff learned the resident wanted to relive memories of being part of the mod and biking community.

In a post shared online, the home asked people to help fill its car park with scooters and motorbikes so he could once again be "surrounded by mods, scooters and bikes".

The home's lifestyle manager, Jessica Richardson, told BBC Radio Lancashire she was "so stunned and overwhelmed" by the turnout.

She added there were so many riders at Saturday's event that "you couldn't move" for bikes.

Bikers from Lancashire Police also attended the care home meet.

Richardson said the mod fan "had the best day" and "couldn't believe everybody turned up for him".

She added: "Without the response from the community, it wouldn't have been possible.

"Seeing him so happy was just amazing. Many tears were shed.

"It was just a perfect day."
