A British tourist has provoked outrage after criticising a cafe at former Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz for its coffee prices and lack of decaffeinated options.

The prolific TikTok user, posting under the handle freespirit390, has shared a series of videos about her visit to the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum in Poland.

The TikToker has been accused of insulting those who lost their lives at the camp, where at least an estimated 1.1million people were killed during the Holocaust.  

But she has hit back in a series of follow-up clips, accusing her critics of being 'wokes' and saying, 'Wind your neck in' and 'Love the hate'. 

The tourist, who has 146,700 followers on TikTok, initially posted a video captioned 'Prices at Auschwitz' and in which she can be heard talking to her daughter.

She told viewers: 'Here's another tip if you're going to Auschwitz in Poland - take a drink with you.

'We thought we'd get a coffee. They don't do decaff and they don't do any other milk rather than real milk.'

She told of ordering a strawberry smoothie that she described as tasting 'very watered down', while adding that her daughter's lemonade smelled 'like toilet cleaner'.

The visitor also complained about their two drinks costing a total £9, adding: 'The taxi from the station here cost £1.20 - that was a bargain.

'When you come to Auschwitz, bring some food and drink - although you do get frisked at the door.'

Unimpressed commenters posted responses including sardonic comments such as 'It's all gone downhill since the change in management' and 'Yeah, my grandparents' immediate family didn't enjoy it either in the 40s.'

Another TikTok user posted: 'It is a site where you go to remember the victims, preserve their stories and educate people about one of the darkest moments in history.

'This focus should be on respecting their memory, not turning the experience into a personal review.'

A response to one of her follow-up clips said: 'You're making an even bigger fool of yourself every time you open your mouth.

'Haven't you got any kids that will shut you up?' 

In one of her latest responses, the British tourist accused officials at the site of 'monetising' the Holocaust, saying: 'It should be a memorial, not an attraction.'

She said: 'I've had a lot of abuse for giving a comment on the poor quality and expense of things in the cafe.'

She described the online reaction from people as about '2-2 between love and hate', though added: 'At the moment the hate is outweighing the love.

'But I'll get over it and they'll get over it.' 

She also criticised what she called 'disrespectful' comments she has received, saying in another upload: 'I've reported loads - some have been taken down.

'They're done by wokes, snowflakes. When I look at the stats of the people who've commented, they're all under 40 or 50. The comments are terrible, disrespectful to the camp and the people that died there.

'No one died in the cafe, no one died there, no one was gassed there.

'I just had a drink there which is nowhere near the camp entrance.' 

Adolf Hitler's Nazi regime murdered 1.1million people at Auschwitz which was under German occupation during the Second World War before being liberated by Soviet troops.

Most of the victims were Jewish people killed on an industrial scale in gas chambers, but Poles, Roma, Soviet prisoners of war, gay people and others were also targeted.

The Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum was formally founded in 1947 and became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979.
