West Ham squandered a two-goal lead on their return to the Championship as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Burnley.
The Hammers, playing in the second tier for the first time since 2012, were dealt a harsh dose of reality as they were forced to settle for a point against their fellow relegated rivals.
