A multiple murder investigation was launched by Gardaí (Irish police) following the fire.

In a brief statement on Friday, Irish police said: "The thoughts of all members of An Garda Síochána are with the extended English family at this sad time."

A number of people arrested by police in connection with the attack have all been released without charge.

Floral tributes are left outside the cordoned off home belonging to Philip and Kim English, and their two children who died after an arson attack in Waterford City. Behind the metal gates, which are covered in green mesh, is a semi-detached home with boarded up windows.

In the days after the attack, hundreds of people attended a prayer vigil.
