An 18-year-old has been arrested in connection to an alleged knife crime incident in a Cardiff chip shop.

At about 05:00 BST on 20 September, a man entered The Chippy on St Mary Street and hopped over the counter before appearing to pick up a knife, South Wales Police said.

Staff disarmed him and he was removed from the premises. No one was hurt and the police were called once the suspect had left the area.

Det Ch Insp Christine Edmunds, from South Wales Police, said: "Levels of knife offences in the UK have risen over the last few years, and south Wales is no different to anywhere else in that respect.

"Thankfully, levels of those offences remain lower here than many other parts of the UK, and, generally, south Wales is a safe place to live, to work, and to be.

"But even one instance of knife crime is one too many, and tackling the harm that knife crime causes is an absolute priority for South Wales Police."
