Coronation Street and Brookside actor Eric Potts faces prison after being found with indecent images of children

Coronation Street actor Eric Potts faces years behind bars after he admitted making indecent images of children.

Potts, 61, who is best known for his role as Diggory Compton in the long-running soap, as well as stints in Brookside and Casualty, pleaded guilty to six charges.

He was arrested in August and later charged with three counts of making indecent photographs of a child and three counts of distributing the images.

The married father-of-two appeared at Blackburn Magistrates' Court last Thursday and admitted making 83 images between May 2015 and October 2025, in Bacup, Lancashire.

Seven of the images are classed as the most serious - Category A - which involve penetrative sexual activity.

Of the others found, 16 images were Category B and 60 were Category C.

Police officers seized a number of devices from Potts' home in Bacup, where he has lived for 20 years, including a PC, an HP laptop and an iPhone, The Sun reported.

He is set to be sentenced next month.

A Lancashire Constabulary spokesman said: 'On August 20 last year we received information that the user of a file-sharing account had uploaded an indecent video of a child to the internet.

'Officers from the Internet Child Exploitation Team attended the address linked to the account and arrested Eric Potts on suspicion of possession and distribution of indecent images of children.

'He was subsequently bailed pending further enquiries.

'Following an examination of his devices more illegal imagery was found and Potts, 61, of Bacup, was further arrested.

'He was charged in September this year and appeared at Blackburn Magistrates' Court on October 1 where he pleaded guilty.'

Potts, who was brought up in Ayrshire, Scotland, appeared in 50 episodes of Coronation Street between 2005 and 2006 as beleaguered baker Diggory Compton.

Previously, he played Wrexham Football Club supporter Mr Moore in Brookside, while other screen appearances included Heartbeat, Last of the Summer Wine and Doctor Who.

He was also a regular on the pantomime circuit, most notably in Dick Whittington alongside Dame Edna Everage in 2011 at the New Wimbledon Theatre.
