A former Green Party councillor has appeared in court after being charged with attacking a member of the public, three police officers and a member of police staff.

Siobhan Harper-Nunes was arrested on suspicion of assault after police were called to the junction of Monument Road and Hagley Road in the city at about 17:00 BST on 6 August.

The 66-year-old appeared in front of magistrates in Birmingham on Thursday and was released on unconditional bail.

District Judge Michelle Smith adjourned the hearing until 17 September following a request from Harper-Nunes' solicitor Georgina Ellis for CCTV relating to the case to be reviewed.

The councillor was elected in May to represent the Ladywood ward for the city council.

Following the assault charges, Harper-Nunes was suspended from the Green Party and is now listed as an independent councillor.

She previously stood as the Green Party's candidate for West Midlands mayor in the 2024 election.
