A crash involving three heavy goods vehicles and a car has closed a section of the M6 in Staffordshire.
National Highways said it happened at about 04:00 BST between junctions 15 and 16, heading north.
It said the police, fire service and ambulance service were all called and described the crash as a "very serious collision" and the closure could be lengthy.
It also said it expected the section of the motorway to be closed for some time and diversions had been set up. The southbound section of the motorway has been reopened but the northbound carriageway remains closed.
