
A cyclist is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after an apparent hit-and-run incident in southern Scotland.
The 36-year-old rider was struck at about 15:30 on Tuesday on the A72 between Skirling and Biggar by a vehicle that left the scene before police arrived.
Officers are trying to trying to trace the vehicle involved and have appealed for information about a Mercedes Sprinter type van that was in the area at the time.
The cyclist was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh
Det Con Josh Ellwood said: "Our enquiries are ongoing and I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to contact us.
"I would also appeal to anyone who has seen a Mercedes Sprinter type van in the area around the time to contact us.
"I would also request anyone with dash cam or private CCTV footage that could assist to get in touch."
