David Beckham joins Theo James in new The Gentlemen and Stella Artois campaign amid Meghan Markle casting reports

David Beckham has got in on The Gentlemen action, teaming up with Theo James for his latest Stella Artois advert.

The former footballer, 51, who has been the drinks company's global brand ambassador for two-and-a-half years, looked sharp in a grey suit and brown shoes as he joined the actor for The Gentlemen's Serve campaign.

David's collaboration with the Netflix show comes just days after reports Meghan Markle had been offered a part in series three, with insiders saying she could still bag a role despite claims her offer had been withdrawn.

The campaign sees Theo, who plays Eddie Horniman, the 13th Duke of Halstead, in the hit Guy Ritchie series, outbid David during an auction for a prized bull by intimidating him with a freshly poured pint of Stella Artois.

After Sir David bids – using a paddle with his signature number seven on it – he is handed a pint by Theo's right-hand man, who threateningly tells David: 'Courtesy of the Duke', before slicing a knife across the head of the beer.

The auctioneer then announces Sir David's bid has been withdrawn. As Theo leaves, he warns, 'Never corner a bull, David', before raising his own glass to the star's.

Sharing the ad on Instagram, Sir David penned: 'Message understood loud and clear Duke. Can’t wait for season two of The Gentlemen.'

Speaking about his experience working with Sir David, Theo praised the star for being so down to earth.

He told People: 'I grew up, as a lot of people did, you know, watching him from a teenager all the way through how he’s evolved his career in many multifaceted ways, but I hadn’t got to really hang out with him before.

'I enjoyed the fact of how down to earth he is. Despite the magnitude of his success, and he is a kind of British icon, he’s a really safe, normal dude, and I really enjoyed hanging out with him.'

The campaign marks the first brand partner for the series, and the first true multi-market brand collaboration between Netflix and Stella Artois's owner AB InBev, bringing one of the world's leading premium beer brands into Guy Ritchie’s stylish yet gritty universe.

'The Gentlemen deals with rituals of aristocracy at the highest stakes and partnering with Stella Artois – a brand internationally recognised for its commitment to excellence and taste – allows us to bring that to life in a whole new way,' said Theo James.

'The partnership feels authentic to the story in a way that fans of the show will enjoy. Delicious.'

Earlier this week it was reported Meghan Markle was one of many names Guy Ritchie had mentioned for The Gentlemen series three.

The Duchess of Sussex is thought to remain in talks to join the cast after Ritchie suggested her amongst other actresses while considering ideas for the third series of his gangster show.

A well-placed source told Variety that the former Suits star's potential involvement was an 'incredibly nascent concept' and was hardly considered 'real on any level'.

Ritchie is said to have mentioned Meghan as one of 'a smorgasbord of names', well before she and Prince Harry were revealed last week to be returning to Britain.

The insider also claimed the idea may have been discussed between the agents for Meghan and Ritchie, who are both represented by William Morris Endeavor.

They agreed with claims that rumours could have been leaked by Meghan's team to signal her availability, and they would be 'stunned' if it did not come from her camp.

Scripts for series three of the show are still being written, so a role could be created for the 45-year-old duchess, with the source saying: 'I wouldn't rule out it happening.'

On Monday, a new full-length trailer for the upcoming second series starring Theo James and Kaya Scodelario was released by Netflix – but the insider said the cast and crew were 'bummed' at how the spotlight had shifted away from them.
