An 11-year-old's death is being treated as unexplained by police who say they are investigating after her body was found in a Worcestershire park.

The girl was reported missing at about 23:20 BST on Sunday and she was later found in the park near the cricket ground in Elmley Castle, near Evesham, detectives said.

Inquiries were ongoing into the circumstances surrounding her death, a West Mercia Police spokesperson said.

Nearby residents were warned by the force that there would be an increased police presence in the area.

The girl's family are being supported by specially trained officers, said the force.

The small village, about four miles from Pershore, has a population of about 500, according to the parish council.

The castle it is named after, dating back to the 11th Century, is on the sides of nearby Bredon Hill.
