Declan Rice has offered Liverpool some hope in the Premier League title race, in contrast to Jamie Carragher’s prediction following their defeat to Arsenal.
In Sunday’s big game from the Premier League, Arsenal came out on top by a goal-to-nil as Kai Havertz’s first half goal was the difference between the two sides.
The German, in the 16th minute, got on the end of Rice’s cross to the back post for a simple tap-in and from there, the Gunners - at times - rode their luck en route to sealing a first league win at Anfield for 14 years.
The result not only means Arsenal are now three points clear of Manchester City at the Premier League summit, the gap between them and Liverpool now stands at nine points with one match to play before the international break.
Such is the distance that Carragher has conceded that this season will not be the year for his former club.
"It means Liverpool aren't going to win the league!” Carragher said while analysing the game for Sky Sports on Super Sunday.

However, Rice - who hailed Arsenal’s team spirit - insisted it is too early to be making definitive statements about the title race.
He said: “Like you said, we’ve not won here in 14 years, so we got off to a very good start.
“We could have probably done a little bit more as well in front of goal but in the end, that defensive line, the way we stick together, that togetherness we have, it’s like nothing I’ve ever seen before.
“I’ve learned that the table, you can only take it seriously in February, March. If you’re there or thereabouts, then you know you’re in with a shout.
“Anything now between now and then, you’ve got to win as many as you can.”
The Gunners then sign off for the international break with a home game against Hull, while Liverpool travel to the capital to face a struggling Crystal Palace side at Selhurst Park.
