Donald Trump has offered the boss of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) the job of his next press secretary.

The president of the United States announced via his Truth Social platform he had asked Dana White, who runs the international mixed martial arts competition, to take up the job of White House press secretary.

The role has been vacant since mid-October, when the last incumbent Katie Zacharia left after just a few days on the job.

Mr Trump said on Truth Social: “I am pleased to announce that the Great Dana White, a violent Fighter and Warrior, has been offered the job of Press Secretary of the United States.”

He added: “Dana will be a Press Secretary like none other. Dana, please take the job!”

The US president has sought to shake up his close team in the wake of a rout of his Republican party in Congress, the American equivalent of the Houses of Parliament, following the mid-term elections on Tuesday November 3.

In the wake of heavy losses to the Democrats, Mr Trump ousted his White House chief of staff Susie Wiles, and replaced her with long-time aide Stephen Miller.

Mr Trump’s Truth Social message also said that he had asked the UFC boss to bring several assistants into the White House with him.

They include several former UFC competitors, two of whom are Russian by birth.

Mr Trump said: “I have requested that he bring with him assistants, even though some are not from our Country, of Islam Makhachev, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Justin Gaethje, Daniel Cormier, Amanda Nunes, and Kayla Harris.

“We need these people to defend us against the Lunatic Left.”

The US press secretary effectively acts as a spokesperson for the president, and deals with the media on a daily basis.
