Donald Trump has hinted that he wants to rename the Strait of Hormuz after himself, following his Lake America move.
The US president has been busy renaming major geographical landmarks and attractions in North America in recent months in his attempt to spread the MAGA movement.
From airports to battleships, Americans could soon see the president’s name plastered on them.
In this latest executive order, Trump changed the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America at the Canadian border following soured trade talks with its northern neighbour and historical ally.
Google Maps was the first tech giant to enact the change, followed by Apple Maps yesterday, a move the president labelled ‘complete, ratified and binding.’
Now the 80-year-old has got his eyes set on another location – the troubled Strait of Hormuz.
The narrow shipping passage has become the focal point in the US-Iran war after fighting over control has continued since the start of the conflict in February, with oil prices and the global economy feeling the brunt.
Last month, Trump claimed that the passage was ‘new US territory,’ prompting a furious response from Iran.
Trump wrote on Truth Social yesterday: ‘Now that we have it under U.S.A. control, should we change the name Hormuz Strait to TRUMP STRAIT??? Like America itself, it would be “hotter” than ever before!’
Iran is yet to respond to the president’s plan for the Strait.
Efforts to reach a deal that would end the bloody war appear to have slipped further after recent escalation.
Iran and the US exchanged airstrikes this week, with the US hitting what it described as military targets on the country’s southern coast, while Tehran accused it of targeting a wedding and killing at least four people.
At home, Trump has renamed the Palm Beach Airport as President Donald J Trump International Airport, and the Kennedy Center is due to carry his name again after it was briefly removed during a row.
He also proposed to create a new Trump-class battleship, a nuclear-powered warship with a starting price of around $23 billion (£17 billion) for the first ship.
