Eamonn Holmes fate at GB News is reportedly uncertain as bosses have “barely heard from the star” since his stroke.

The newsreader, 66, suffered a stroke in April and has been absent from the show for the past four months while he recovers.

Holmes, who took the job in 2022 alongside Isabel Webster before co-host Ellie Costello took over, has been quiet on social media amid his recovery, with his last post being a photo of his granddaughters as he vowed to “get well soon”.

Now, it’s been claimed some GB News insiders believe it’s time for Holmes to ”retire” instead of “publicly declining” in health, with others claiming his co-host Costello feels “extremely stressed” about the constant stream of hosts filling in for Holmes.

“Everyone has started to accept Eamonn won’t be coming back to do the same job as he did before,” a source told the Daily Mail.

“They have barely heard from him in months, and he isn’t on social media anymore. Declan [his son] has been really conscious not to cause his dad any more stress.”

The source added that, before his stroke, Holmes was “going back and forth” with lawyers over his £10 million divorce from his wife of 14 years, Ruth Langsford, from whom he split in 2024.

Costello, 32, has continued to present GB News alongside various co-hosts after being told to “keep the show on the road”, the outlet claimed.

She is reportedly finding it “extremely stressful” as she is “often left wondering who will be sitting beside her each morning”.

Retirement rumours were reportedly already swirling before Holmes’ health setback, with some staffers purportedly thinking he should “bow out gracefully” and only return to GB News for special broadcasts.

An insider said the “legend” should be allowed to “enjoy his retirement” and claimed the fast-paced environment is “not conducive to his health”.

“Waking up in the early hours of the morning would take its toll on the healthiest of people. Eamonn admittedly loves it; he did the same thing at Sky News for years, but it has had an impact,” a source said.

The Standard has contacted GB News and Holmes’ representative for comment.

Holmes had suffered a series of live mishaps on the breakfast show in the months before his stroke, including falling off his chair and reportedly falling asleep - although he denied this happened.

He was hospitalised after he was reportedly found “slumped and out cold” at his home.

“He is currently responding well to treatment. Eamonn has asked for privacy as he focuses on getting better,” GB News said at the time.

“His colleagues and everyone at GB News wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming him back to the people’s channel when he is ready to return.”

His son Declan - who Holmes shares with ex-wife Gabrielle Holmes - said the stroke came as a “real shock”.

Holmes shared a message from his hospital bed in April, posting a photo of his two granddaughters with a handmade “Get well soom[sic]” card for him.

He captioned the post: “As my beautiful Granddaughters put it so well - I will do my best to get well SOOM. Thank you for all of your many many good wishes, they give me strength.”

The former This Morning presenter has endured numerous health problems in the past few years, and recently revealed dealing with illness and mobility issues have been “horrendous”.

Holmes underwent a double hip replacement in 2016. Five years later, he suffered three slipped discs and a dislocated pelvis.
