Escaped horse causes travel chaos on major road into London
A horse caused travel chaos on Tuesday morning after escaping from a field onto a major road.
The incident occurred at around 7.35am, when Surrey Police were called to reports of the horse on the southbound carriageway of the A3 at Wisley.
A force spokesperson said that there was a temporary road closure while the horse was safely moved to a nearby service station.
A three-vehicle collision separately occurred on the road while the incident was ongoing, with one person taken to hospital with minor injuries.
The South East Coast Ambulance Service and Surrey Fire and Rescue Service both attended the scene along with police.
Driving instructor Michael Rose was driving on the A3 when he saw the horse galloping into the outside lane.
He told BBC Radio Surrey: "Unbelievably, some drivers were still trying to overtake it, so I felt I had to do something.
"I used my van to shield the horse and, with the help of a recovery truck driver, we managed to keep it safely at the side of the road until the emergency services arrived."
Mr Rose added that the horse was frightened at first, before calming down and grazing on the verge.
He added: "It was disappointing to see drivers trying to pass the horse because these animals can move unpredictably and very quickly.
"The situation could easily have ended in a fatality for either the horse or a motorist."
The road reopened later on Tuesday morning.
