The family of a PE teacher who died after he was hit by a car in Fife have paid tribute to their "much-loved" family member.

Daren Baillie, 51, was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident, which happened on the A92 at Freuchie, at about 23:50 on Thursday and involved a red Suzuki Swift.

The female driver of the Suzuki was uninjured. Inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incident, police confirmed.

In a statement released through police, Daren's family said they were devastated by his "tragic death" and wished to express their gratitude for the support they had received.

"Daren was a much-loved husband, dad, son, brother and friend whose sudden passing has left a huge void in the lives of all who knew him," they said.

"He spent 30 years as a PE teacher in Fife and took immense pride in the positive impact he had on his students, with a particular focus on supporting the most vulnerable learners to achieve their very best.

"We would like to thank the emergency services for their efforts and kindly ask for privacy as we mourn the loss of a dearly loved family member."

Sgt David Keeney said asked anyone who witnessed the incident, or anyone who may have dashcam footage, to contact police.
