Forty fixed penalty notices were issued following the latest "car meet" involving hundreds of vehicles in Aberdeen.

Police said officers were called out following reports of anti-social behaviour and driving at the Beach Boulevard area on Saturday.

The "large-scale car meet" involved more than 400 cars.

Around 90 vehicles were stopped, 40 fixed penalty notices were issued, five anti-social behaviour orders were issued, and two vehicles were seized.

Earlier this year, a similar meet-up of 700 cars at an Asda car park in Aberdeen resulted in police identifying more than 100 offences.

Police said the majority of people involved in the latest gathering "enjoyed their cars and behaved responsibly" - but some chose to drive in an anti-social manner and commit road traffic offences.

Ch Insp Andy Meikleham said: "Several of these events have taken place in Aberdeen this year.

"They are well-attended and the vast majority of those who attend enjoy showing their vehicles and meeting others, however, they continue to be let down by the conduct of those who behave in an unacceptable manner, contributing to crime and creating a negative environment for the local community.

"This will not be tolerated. We will continue to police these events and take enforcement action where necessary."
