Arsenal have completed the club-record sale of Gabriel Martinelli to Al-Hilal.

Martinelli is understood to have signed a four-year contract, making the move to Saudi Arabia for a £60million fee.

That far exceeds the Gunners’ previous record sale of £35m for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in 2017.

Martinelli spent seven years in the capital and proved to be a superb piece of business after he was signed for around £6m from Brazilian side Ituano in 2019.

The 25-year-old scored 62 goals in 278 appearances for the club and leaves with a Premier League winners' medal.

There was no push from Martinelli's side to leave Arsenal this summer and he turned down the option to move to Turkey.

However, the Brazilian was left out of the matchday squad for the Community Shield and then again for the champions’ opening Premier League match against Coventry.

Discussions were held with Mikel Arteta over his place at the club that led to the winger becoming more open to listening to offers.

The Gunners have overhauled their left flank this summer, with Martinelli following Leandro Trossard in leaving the club.

Christos Tzolis arrived as a replacement earlier in the window but it remains to be seen if there is an additional signing in that area of the pitch.
