A 17-year-old girl has been taken to hospital after being hit by a Range Rover in a hit-and-run in Scotland.

The driver failed to stop after the collision on Old Dalkeith Road in Midlothian at around 4.30pm on Friday.

Police Scotland is investigating the incident and appealing for witnesses to come forward.

A black Range Rover is believed to have hit the young girl, who required hospital treatment after the incident.

Constable Geoff Valentine said: ‘This was a frightening incident for the pedestrian, and our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

‘I’d also ask that those driving in the area at the time with a dash-cam review their footage to see if it has captured anything that could assist with our investigation.’

This comes after an e-bike rider died last month after a suspected hit-and-run crash involving a moped in west London.
