Gleeful Chelsea fans react to Manchester United's Michael Carrick sack decision: 'Free three points'

The news that Manchester United will keep boss Michael Carrick in situ for Saturday’s trip to Stamford Bridge has been met by jubilation from Chelsea supporters online.
It was reported that on Monday Man United chiefs met to discuss Carrick’s future, before deciding the former player will continue in his role.
Carrick looked beleaguered on the touchline during Sunday’s defeat to Bournemouth, Manchester United struggling to lay a glove on the visitors as they romped to a 3-0 victory.
Heading into the Bournemouth game, there was already serious speculation that Carrick would depart Old Trafford following a similarly dismal display against Como in the Champions League.
But it appears Carrick is set to remain in his post until at least the Chelsea game, leading to gleeful social media posts from Blues fans.
One fan celebrated ‘free three points’, presuming the Blues will sweep away a Manchester United side winless in eight games across all competitions.
Another believed the news was cause for ‘celebration for all Chelsea fans’ - before predicting that ‘the Chelsea that we know will put all the fans into [shame]’.
That was not an uncommon thought, with a Chelsea supporter writing on X: “Carrick is very lucky. Chelsea usually hand out points in these situations. Happy to be proven wrong”.
But there were still plenty of Blues fans sharing their joy simply by posting reaction GIFs and memes of celebrations, clearly predicting an easy win at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
A popular Chelsea-themed Twitter account with over 170,000 followers simply shared a video of former Brentford striker Ivan Toney dancing, already celebrating three points from Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off.
Chelsea have one more match before the visit of United, as they face Liverpool in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.
Manchester United’s current run of eight games without a win includes the match that saw them knocked out of that competition by Brighton 3-2, despite holding a 2-0 lead at Old Trafford.
