Today is Google’s 28th birthday - and the search engine is marking the milestone with a very nostalgic doodle.

Nearly three decades later, it’s one of the biggest companies in the world.

The numbers pointing to its growth and significance are staggering.

Parent firm Alphabet Inc has a market value of some $4.2trillion (£3.2trillion), topped only by Nvidia and Apple.

Processing between 8.5billion and 14billion searches every day, it completely dominates the global search engine market with a roughly 90% share.
