Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario has joined Juventus on a one-season loan with an option to buy.

The Italian signed for Spurs from Empoli in 2023 and has been the club’s first-choice shot-stopper since, but after his form faltered last season, his name was listed among those able to leave the club this summer as Roberto De Zerbi looked to overhaul his squad.

The 29-year-old has now sealed his move away from Hotspur Way, moving to Turin on an initial 12-month loan. Juventus have confirmed their option to buy is worth up to €10m, comprising of an €8m up-front fee and €2m in add-ons. The loan will expire on June 30, 2027.

Juventus have held an interest in Vicario for some time, though the Bianconeri also made moves to sign Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez earlier this summer.

They appeared to be nearing a deal to sign the Argentine over the weekend, but talks broke down and they subsequently turned their attention to Vicario.

Vicario’s exit clears the way for Antonin Kinsky to become the club’s undisputed No1.

The 23-year-old Czech made headlines last season as he was handed a surprise start by Igor Tudor in the Champions League last-16 first leg away at Atletico Madrid - his full debut. He was hooked with just 17 minutes played after making two critical errors, which both led to goals.

He recovered well from the incident, though, and ended the campaign as Spurs’ first choice as Vicario recovered from hernia surgery.

Kinsky was then handed a new five-year contract in June, and De Zerbi has tipped him for a big campaign.

Speaking earlier this summer, he said: “We have huge belief in what Toni can become. He is still young, has enormous potential and I know that Spurs is the perfect place for him to continue to develop into one of the best goalkeepers in Europe.”

Vicario will hope to help Juventus improve their fortunes this season after they faltered in the league last time out, finishing in sixth place, 18 points adrift of champions Inter Milan. He could make his debut as early as this Sunday, provided he is registered in time, as Juventus open their Serie A campaign away at Frosinone.

He follows a number of his team-mates in leaving Tottenham this summer, with Djed Spence and Cristian Romero both sealing moves away earlier this week.
