Irish traditional musician Dónal Lunny has died at the age of 79 after battling cancer.
In a career that saw Lunny tour worldwide, he rose to prominence in the Rakes of Kildare band alongside Christy Moore and his brother Frank.
He went on to play in bands like Planxty, Moving Hearts, the Bothy Band and Coolfin among others.
“We are heartbroken to confirm that our beloved Dónal passed away peacefully this morning in Dublin following a short stay in St James’s Hospital,” the post said.

“Thank you for helping us to remember and celebrate his immense contribution to music, to culture and to so many people’s lives all over the world.”
The post ended in Irish, saying his likes will not be seen again: “Ní bheidh a leithéid arís ann.”
Born in Tullamore, Co Offaly, Lunny was a multi-instrumentalist but was best known for his mastery on the bouzouki.
