A source has said ITV is “hopeful” Sir Tom Jones will return to The Voice UK for its upcoming series amid rumours of his exit from the reality TV show.

The Welsh singer, 86, has appeared as an on-off coach on the popular singing competition since it premiered in 2012.

The star, known for 1960s anthems such as It’s Not Unusual and What’s New Pussycat?, has faced speculation that he will be “dropped” from its 2027 series, which is due to begin production soon.

However, a source from the show told the Press Association: “ITV absolutely loves working with Sir Tom.

“They are in talks with him and are hopeful he will return to the series.”

In the most recent series of The Voice UK Sir Tom features as a coach alongside McFly stars Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones, as well as US rapper Will.i.am and Destiny’s Child singer Kelly Rowland.

Sir Tom has featured alongside many coaches during his tenure on the show, including singers Jessie J, Olly Murs, Kylie Minogue and Rita Ora.

The award-winning singer has also mentored three winners on the programme: Leanne Mitchell in series one, Ruti Olajugbagbe in series seven, and Anthonia Edwards in series 11.

Sir Tom, who is known for hits including Delilah and She’s A Lady, has enjoyed a successful music career stretching over six decades.

He received a knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II in 2006 for his services to music.
