Jamie Carragher issues Arsenal verdict after 'absolutely outstanding' Liverpool win

Jamie Carragher says Arsenal are arguably “the best team defensively” in Europe following their 1-0 win over Liverpool.
Kai Havertz’s first half goal was enough for the Gunners to win for the first time at Anfield in the Premier League in 14 years, with the result also moving the reigning champions three points clear of Manchester City at the summit.
Having taken the lead as early as the 16th minute, Arsenal had to survive some nervy moments to leave Merseyside with a statement victory.
Alexander Isak was unfortunate to not win Liverpool a penalty when his shirt was pulled by Jurrien Timber in the box, while Alexis Mac Allister spurned a glorious chance shortly before the break when he headed over from close range.
Although Liverpool were the side on top for large periods, they ultimately failed to seriously test Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya as they failed to register a single shot on target despite having 17 attempts.
Reflecting on the game, Carragher heaped praise on the Arsenal rearguard as he pointed out how impressed he has been with Mikel Arteta’s side defensively this season even in the absence of William Saliba.
"No, it was a brilliant game and both teams can take a lot from it,” Carragher said on Sky Sports. “Liverpool played really well.
“They didn't do enough but you are playing against, defensively, the best team in this country, arguably in Europe and that is without the best centre-back in the world in Saliba.
"When you think about Arsenal winning titles, especially in '89 and '91 with Tony Adams and that famous back four, I think we're getting close to putting this back four up against that and in that conversation.
"To come to Anfield and be put under that much pressure and not have a shot on target from the opposition, or Liverpool not to have a big chance given the money they've spent on their attack is absolutely outstanding."
