Kevin Danso joins Sunderland on loan as Tottenham turn attention to Chelsea star
Tottenham centre-back Kevin Danso has completed a season-long loan move to Sunderland.
understands the deal includes a £25million obligation to buy the Austrian international at the end of the season.
Spurs initially rejected a straight loan offer from Sunderland, but talks continued until an agreement was met that will see the 27-year-old join the Black Cats permanently next summer.
Spurs were also hesitant to let Danso leave before finding a replacement, who will be Tosin Adarabioyo in a deal worth around £7m.
Danso is one of several Spurs players who requested to leave the club before the end of the summer transfer window, with Roberto De Zerbi confirming over the weekend that the Austrian, along with Pape Matar Sarr and Richarlison had all expressed a desire to explore opportunities before tonight’s summer transfer deadline.
Danso was largely bit-part player during his time at Spurs, but played a vital role in helping keep the north London club in the Premier League last season following a season-ending injury to captain Cristian Romero.
Danso stepped in to start each of Spurs’ final six league games as they stayed up on the final day after a 1-0 victory at home to Everton.
Danso joined Spurs on loan from Ligue 1 side Lens in January 2025 before the deal was made permanent for £20.9m later that year.
