A knife has been found in a pupil's bag at a Sheffield school where 15-year-old Harvey Willgoose was stabbed to death last year.

Police attended All Saints Catholic High School, on Granville Road, just before 14:00 BST on Friday, after the knife was discovered during a bag search.

An investigation has been launched and the force said it was working with the school to deal with the incident "in the most appropriate manner".

On 3 February 2025, Harvey was stabbed during his lunch break at All Saints by fellow pupil Mohammed Umar Khan.

Khan was in Year Nine when he stabbed Harvey, who was his former friend, in front of children and teachers.

In October last year, Khan, also 15, was found guilty of murder and detained for a minimum of 16 years.

Insp Katie Hammond said: "We know the destruction carrying a knife can have on our local communities.

"We have seen firsthand the devastating effect knife crime has on victims, their families, as well as the people who choose to arm themselves.

"As part of our day-to-day work to tackle knife crime, we regularly visit schools to carry out educational and engagement talks.

"We also conduct operational activity such as stop searches and weapon sweeps.

"Across Sheffield, and South Yorkshire, we also have knife surrender bins providing people a safe and anonymous place to dispose of knives.

"However, we can't root out knife crime alone. We all have a role to play in helping change the perceptions around carrying weapons, especially in young people."

She encouraged people to have open conversations with those they love who carry weapons or feel pressured to carry one.

"We know this may feel awkward, difficult or upsetting but there is support available to help you have these conversations," Hammond added.
