Liverpool: Andoni Iraola offers hope over major triple injury boost in new update
Andoni Iraola is leaving the door open to Liverpool trio Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo potentially returning from injury against Brentford this weekend.
The Reds have been without all three key players since returning from the extended three-week international break, with forwards Isak and Gakpo having sustained respective thigh and ankle issues while on duty with their countries.
Influential midfielder Szoboszlai appeared to return from Nations League action with Hungary unscathed, only to end up missing the clash with Manchester City last weekend as the result of a hamstring problem.
Liverpool were brushed aside 3-0 by City without that important trio, none of whom were fit enough to make the trip to Austria as Iraola’s side bounced back quickly by thrashing LASK Linz 6-3 in the Champions League on Wednesday night with Bradley Barcola scoring a hat-trick.

Iraola insisted it was too early to say if any of Szoboszlai, Isak or Gakpo might be able to feature when Liverpool head to in-form Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday, though he is not ruling it out at this stage.
The Reds boss said at his pre-match press conference on Thursday: “It's early for us to say, we still have to train tomorrow.
“Obviously they were not ready for yesterday night, so we have to wait and see. I think it is still very early but, the same way I said that they were not available for the previous games, I leave the chance open this time, yes.”
The absence of Szoboszlai against fourth-place Brentford would leave Liverpool notably short on midfield options, with Ryan Gravenberch set to serve a one-match suspension following his contentious and costly sending off against City for two yellow-card offences.
Trey Nyoni started alongside Gravenberch against LASK with Alexis Mac Allister on the bench, with Iraola confident in the 19-year-old if he needs to step up again alongside the likes of 21-year-old striker Lewis Koumas, who got the nod both in midweek and against City with no Isak or Gakpo.
“Yes, especially in this period where we are basically playing every three days,” he said. “You need more players, and that’s why we changed the team a little bit yesterday.
“We will need to change again at the weekend, we will need to change again when we face Villarreal [in the Champions League next Tuesday night].
“We will need everyone, in one moment or another. Everyone has to be ready because we will need them probably.”
