Liverpool offered new hope over major double injury boost for Arsenal clash
Liverpool could be set to welcome back both Dominik Szoboszlai and Victor Munoz for their huge Premier League showdown with Arsenal.
The in-form Reds host Mikel Arteta’s reigning top-flight champions in the game of the weekend at Anfield on Sunday afternoon, looking to state their own title credentials with a sixth consecutive win across all competitions.
Influential midfielder Szoboszlai limped off just over half an hour into his return from a hamstring issue suffered on international duty with Hungary that initially led to him missing two matches, while winger Munoz sustained a knee problem in the same fixture after scoring the equaliser against the Bees.
Both players have sat out the last three games in a row against Villarreal, Brighton and Chelsea, though Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola admitted at his pre-match press conference on Friday that there was “a chance” they could each return against Arsenal.
They have not been spotted in training since then, though video footage circulated on social media on Sunday morning - via James Wathland - that appeared to show Szoboszlai and Munoz both arriving at Liverpool’s team hotel ahead of the game.
Szoboszlai and Munoz also both posted matchday graphics to their respective Instagram Stories on Sunday morning, further raising hopes among fans that they will be in the squad.
The return of their reigning player of the season would be a massive boost for Liverpool for one of their toughest tests of the season so far and create something of a selection dilemma in midfield, while Munoz offers another option in a firing attack alongside the likes of Alexander Isak, Bradley Barcola, Cody Gakpo and Rio Ngumoha.
There were suggestions on social media that neither Ronald Araujo nor Alexis Mac Allister were spotted arriving at Liverpool’s team hotel on Sunday morning, though both players are expected to be involved against Arsenal.
The Reds will definitely be without Jeremie Frimpong, Conor Bradley, Giovanni Leoni and Hugo Ekitike, who all remain sidelined through injury.
