Liverpool are on red alert after they were handed a major boost in their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain forward Bradley Barcola.

The Reds have made the Frenchman their top target in this summer transfer window as Andoni Iraola looks to strengthen his frontline ahead of the new Premier League season.

The Merseysiders are looking light with the new campaign just a week away, and their depth in the final third has proven a point of contention for fans.

Now, however, they could well progress a move for Barcola, after the 23-year-old was omitted from Paris’ matchday squad against Lens in the Trophee des Champions final.

Luis Enrique instead plumped for a front three of Khivicha Kvaratskhelia, Maghnes Akliouche and Desire Doue at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis, while Ousmane Dembele was on the bench.

But there was no sight of Barcola amongst the substitutes, as the rumour mill began to span that bit faster.

It has been previously reported that the winger has turned down a new contract at the Parc des Princes, making an exit this summer increasingly likely.

PSG’s recent signings of Akliouche and now Ferran Torres from Barcelona have also signalled that they are prepared to sanction Barcola’s exit.

They are also set to sign Mika Godts from Ajax to further bolster their forward line.

The Ligue 1 champions are thought to be seeking a £145million fee for the forward, who starred for his country in their run to the World Cup semi-finals earlier this summer.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are in the market for more additions having only signed two senior players in this transfer window as Iraola prepares for his first season in charge at Anfield.

Victor Munoz has arrived from Osasuna, while Ronald Araujo has been signed on loan from Barcelona.

Jeremy Jacquet was signed from Rennes in January, but has only just joined up with his new team-mates after an injury-hit campaign.

Otherwise, Mohamed Salah has not been replaced on the right wing, while Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate both also departed on free transfers.
