Liverpool vs Arsenal LIVE: Premier League result, latest updates and fan reaction
Arsenal are celebrating their first Premier League win over Liverpool at Anfield for 14 years. Not since September 2012 - when Mikel Arteta lined up in their midfield - had the Gunners emerged victorious at this famous old ground, until Kai Havertz’s 16th-minute finish expertly teed up by Declan Rice ultimately settled a pulsating heavyweight clash on Sunday. It was an excellent start to the game from Arsenal, who were more than up for the fight as they sought to bounce back from their midweek Carabao Cup last-16 humiliation at the hands of fourth-tier Fleetwood.
They were largely dominated thereafter by an in-form Liverpool team seeking a sixth successive win across all competitions under Andoni Iraola to underline their own title credentials, but a stunning rearguard effort proved so effective that the hosts failed to muster a single shot on target despite peppering the box with crosses and creating several golden opportunities - the best of which was wasted by Alexis Mac Allister. Florian Wirtz hit the crossbar, while Arsenal were very fortunate not to concede a penalty for Jurrien Timber’s shirt pull on Alexander Isak.
Mac Allister failed to get Noni Madueke sent off as tempers flared late on and Arsenal saw out a statement win that took them above Manchester City to the top-flight summit, three points clear and now nine ahead of Liverpool in fifth.

Arsenal win at Anfield for first time since 2012
The first Arsenal win at Anfield since September 2012 takes them top of the Premier League table.
“An absolute defensive masterclass,” says Gary Neville.
The perfect way to respond to that Fleetwood humiliation in midweek.
More than 30 crosses from dominant Liverpool and 17 total shots, but none on target after Opta took away a debatable one from Barcola.
Liverpool stay fifth and now nine points off the summit as their run of five successive victories across all competitions is halted.
Last chance saloon for Liverpool
95 mins: One more chance for Alisson to boom a free-kick up towards Van Dijk.
Mac Allister‘s shot is blocked by Konsa, but there’s a foul by Isak on Gabriel.
Raya was booked for delaying a free-kick a few minutes ago.
Arsenal are almost there
93 mins: Liverpool are throwing everything at this but they just cannot break down an incredible rearguard effort from Arsenal.
Barcola looks the most likely to grab an equaliser, with Szoboszlai also looking dangerous.
But there’s still been nothing to particularly trouble Raya all day.
Arsenal scare as six minutes of stoppage time signalled
89 mins: Tsimikas plays it to the back post for fellow Liverpool substitute Munoz, who gets in past Hincapie and Calafiori but doesn’t connect properly with the cross.
Raya gathers comfortably.
SIX minutes of added time are signalled as Barcola’s effort is deflected wide.
Arsenal clear the corner but are quickly under the cosh again...
Arsenal standing firm as Merino replaces Odegaard
87 mins: Liverpool are furious as Szoboszlai is denied a free-kick outside the Arsenal box following a challenge by Gyokeres, who can break.
Never a foul.
Odegaard is making way for Merino now.
Time running out as Liverpool probe again
86 mins: Time is quickly running out for Liverpool here as they again probe patiently in search of that elusive equaliser.
They are leaving Van Dijk up top it seems as Calafiori turns away Ngumoha’s cross.
Arsenal send on Hincapie and Gyokeres
84 mins: We now have two further Arsenal changes with just over five minutes plus stoppage time left to play at Anfield.
Hincapie and Gyokeres replace Tzolis and goalscorer Havertz.
Arteta taking risk with lack of Arsenal subs
Standard Sport’s Matt Verri at Anfield
Interesting that there's only 10 minutes left and Arteta has made just one change.
Arsenal have such a deep squad but he's keeping faith with those who are already up to the speed of the game.
Time will tell if that is the right decision or not.
No red card for Madueke after Mac Allister clash
80 mins: Madueke was already on a yellow card there, but he isn’t punished any further.
Instead it’s yellows for Mac Allister and Timber.
A raft of Liverpool changes are now coming.
Tsimikas, Munoz and Koumas replace Kerkez, Araujo and Wirtz.
Hincapie is preparing to come on for Arsenal, meanwhile.
Tempers flaring at Anfield
77 mins: It’s all kicking off now at Anfield as Madueke sticks his head in needlessly on Mac Allister, who goes down very theatrically indeed.
Timber initially took exception to Mac Allister slapping Odegaard on the back of the head after a foul on the Arsenal captain, who was on the floor.
Referee Andy Madley has some sorting out to do here.
Madueke might be in trouble...
