Andoni Iraola will take charge of Liverpool for the first time at Anfield this weekend, as Monaco are the visitors in a pre-season friendly.

The Spaniard, appointed as Arne Slot’s replacement earlier in the summer, has overseen three matches - all in the United States - with the Reds beginning their preparations for the new campaign overseas.

Monaco, now managed by former Chelsea left-back Filipe Luis, have had a mixed pre-season thus far, losing to Sporting and drawing with Cercle Brugge but they have beaten Getafe and Saint Priest.

The French side will travel to Merseyside, however, without Maghnes Akliouche after the attacking midfielder left to join rivals Paris Saint-Germain.

Liverpool vs Monaco is scheduled for a 2.30pm BST kick-off on Sunday, August 9, 2026.

The match will take place at Anfield.

In the UK, the game will be televised live on All Red Video, Liverpool’s in-house video streaming service.

Liverpool are set to hand a first appearance to summer signing Victor Munoz after he joined up with the squad this week following a post-World Cup holiday having helped Spain triumph last month.

Due to a lack of training, Munoz is unlikely to start but he should get some minutes off the bench.

Alisson Becker, Virgil van Dijk and Cody Gakpo are also set to be involved after missing the USA tour in its entirety, but fellow new recruit Jeremy Jacquet remains a doubt.

Alexis Mac Allister wraps up his mandatory post-World Cup break after the Monaco game, meaning Trey Nyoni should get the chance to impress in central midfield, while Joe Gomez has joined Hugo Ekitike, Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni on the treatment table.

Wataru Endo may feature here, with Iraola hopeful of giving the midfielder a run-out.

The Monaco squad boasts a number of former Premier League players, including Folarin Balogun and Eric Dier. Though ex-Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is yet to feature in pre-season.

Iraola, barring the second half against Leeds, will have been encouraged with what a largely youthful Liverpool squad did in the United States and the return of some key players is a boost as plans begin to take shape ahead of the new season.

Of course, the main focus of the game will be fitness, but given it’s Iraola’s first as Reds boss at Anfield, we think he will want a positive result to go alongside a good performance.
