Halifax customers have until the end of today to switch banking apps before the lender shuts down its digital service.

The high street bank began phasing out the Halifax app at the start of October, with customers being told to move to the Lloyds Bank app instead.

Lloyds Banking Group said the change was designed to make its banking services ‘simpler and more consistent’.

From November 1, customers will no longer be able to access Halifax through its own app, meaning Saturday, October 31, is the final day to make the switch while retaining full digital access to their accounts.

Customers have been told they will still be able to access their accounts and existing banking information through Lloyds’ systems.

In an email to customers, Halifax said: ‘Just a quick reminder that from 5 October, as part of the Halifax brand changing to Lloyds, we’ll start to close the Halifax app.

‘In just a few easy steps, you’ll be up and running, with everything you need ready for you – your accounts, payments you’ve set up, and any letters and statements we’ve sent to your digital inbox.’

Customers of Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland can already use each other’s branches and apps.

The banking group has said the move will offer customers more choice and convenience by bringing its services together.

It comes as Lloyds Banking Group continues to close branches across the UK, with more customers choosing to bank online rather than visit in person.

Twenty-three Lloyds branches have either already closed or are due to shut by the end of October, including locations in Birmingham, Nottingham and Southampton, along with three Halifax branches.

The group has previously said that falling numbers of customers using face-to-face services had contributed to the closures.

Lloyds Banking Group said: ‘When making changes to our branch network, we always look to understand the impact on our customers – including how they continue to access banking services.

‘Because of this, we may sometimes have a Community Banker visit the area after the branch closes. Or as part of an independent review a Banking Hub or Deposit Service may be set up in a nearby location.’
